Microspheres for lightweight concrete and mortars

Cenospheres can act as a lightweight mineral component in concrete, mortars and dry mixes. They support lower-density design while requiring parallel evaluation of workability, strength and mixing technology.

The role of microspheres in the formulation

Selection starts with target density and mechanical performance. The 0–300 and 0–500 µm ranges are practical starting points for mortars, lightweight concrete and precast products when the process accepts these particle sizes.

A technical trial should cover both the fresh mix and hardened material. Measure density, consistency, air content, strength, thermal conductivity and stability after temperature cycles relevant to the application.
