Microspheres for oil and gas cement formulations

Hollow aluminosilicate microspheres can be evaluated as a lightweight mineral component in cement slurries. Selection requires particle range, density, rheology and particle integrity to be tested under procedures representative of the target conditions.

The role of microspheres in the formulation

Start with measurable supply parameters: particle-size range, bulk and true density, sinker content, moisture and chemical composition. Finer grades can be compared where the process or system geometry limits maximum particle size.

A product datasheet does not establish pressure resistance or the performance of a finished slurry. Application trials should cover slurry density, rheology, sedimentation, filtration, pumpability, particle condition after mixing, and the mechanical and thermal parameters required by the project.

Recommended starting products

The final grade must be validated in the target formulation and process. These products provide a practical starting point for trials.

SPH-300E — 0–300 µm
Series E
Aluminosilicate microsphere

SPH-300E — 0–300 µm

A versatile 0–300 µm E-series grade balancing controlled particle size with industrial processing flexibility.

Why this grade

The 0–300 µm range and 0.38–0.45 g/cm³ bulk density allow a broader E-series grading to be compared when the process permits it.

SPH-200E — 63–200 µm
Series E
Aluminosilicate microsphere

SPH-200E — 63–200 µm

A controlled 63–200 µm E-series grade with a concentrated fine-to-medium particle-size distribution for coatings and composites.

Why this grade

The 63–200 µm range, 0.35–0.44 g/cm³ bulk density and below-12% sinker specification allow a grade with fewer very fine particles to be assessed.

SPH-150E — 0–150 µm
Series E
Aluminosilicate microsphere

SPH-150E — 0–150 µm

A fine 0–150 µm E-series grade for formulations where a smaller maximum particle size is required.

Why this grade

The 0–150 µm range and 0.36–0.44 g/cm³ bulk density provide a fine starting point for controlled cement trials.
